As CEO of Direct to Consumer, Robert Schildhouse has oversight of BritBox, BBC Select, and all BBC Studios’ future direct to consumer ambitions in North America.

Robert was promoted to the role in February 2026, having previously served as President of BritBox overseeing the platform's strategic and editorial direction in the North American market as well as product/technology and marketing. Under his tenure, BritBox has solidified its position in the specialty streaming marketplace and boasts a remarkable track record of growth and profitability, with subscribers increasing by double digits each of the past three years and profits up 20% in the first full year of ownership by BBC Studios.

Robert recently spearheaded the launch of BritBox Premier, a new annual subscription tier that offers enhanced features like 4K streaming, downloads, early access to new releases, and four simultaneous streams.

Robert is a streaming industry veteran who has played a pivotal role in the entertainment industry's latest chapter of reinvention. As a member of the Hulu launch team and the streamer's first head of Content Acquisition, Robert shepherded hundreds of studios, networks, and global rights holders into the AVOD and SVOD market for the first time, before moving to CBS, where he was responsible for bringing the company's portfolio of TV libraries and most iconic titles to the streaming marketplace.
